On March 25th, The Pastime Theatre in Winfield invites you to grab a slaw burger, fries and a bottle of ski and head on down to the theatre for a night of foot stomping good music when the Kentucky Headhunters take the stage.
The Kentucky Headhunters are a musical hybrid of honky-tonk, blues and southern rock that appeal to fans of all ages. Declared as “the great American rock ‘n’ roll band” by Billboard magazine, The Kentucky Headhunters hits include “Walk Softly on this Heart of Mine”, “Oh Lonesome Me” and “Dumas Walker.” The Kentucky Headhunters began their career in 1968 when brothers Fred and Richard Young and cousins Greg Martin and Anthony Kenney formed the Southern blues-rock band Itchy Brother. The Itchy Brothers played for over a decade before launching separate careers and then reuniting in 1985 as The Kentucky Headhunters. Currently, the band is made up of Richard Young, Fred Young, Greg Martin and Doug Phelps.
In 1989, they released their first album “Pickin’ on Nashville” which included the hit “Dumas Walker.” The album was a hit selling over two million copies and spawned four consecutive Top 40 Country hits. “Pickin’ on Nashville” would go on to win a Grammy Award, three Country Music Awards, an American Music Award and an Academy Of Country Music Award. Since then they’ve released 9 studio albums, 6 compilation albums and 27 singles. Their latest album was released in October of 2021 and titled “That’s A Fact Jack.”
“I have been anticipating this show since my first phone conversation with Richard Young. He was so down-to-earth and the entire conversation just had a good time coming feel. I feel we are in for a fantastic night,” stated Mary Hyche, Theatre chairman. “We are thankful to the Alabama State Council on the Arts for grant funding which helps us bring quality entertainment such as this to our area,” said Hyche.
