Winfield has recognized the need for creating and directing convenient activities for its youth, adult, and senior citizens. The hub of these activities is a beautiful brick community center where activities for all ages are held. A 60 acre, open air park adjoins one multi-purpose field with electronic scoreboards.
The area agency on aging sponsors a luncheon daily at the community center for citizens 60 years of age and older with a van for transportation.
The community center is available for outside activities such as reunions, showers and parties; however, reservations should be made.
The summer baseball program consists of five 7 & 8 year old Dixie Youth, four 9 & 10 year old Dixie Youth, four 11 & 12 year old Dixie Youth, two 13 & 14 year old Dixie Boys, one 15 & 16 year old Dixie Minors and one 17 & 18 year old Dixie Majors. The summer softball program consists of four 7-11 year old girls softball, two 12-15 year old girls softball, six ladies church league softball, nine men’s church leagues and five men's independents. Also available are six soccer teams ages kindergarten through 6th grade.
Other services available at the community center are Health Department personnel, rehabilitation services, hearing clinic, quilting, square dancing, clogging, music lessons and karate classes.
The finest athletic and recreational programs in the area are available through the school system which has facilities unequalled for comparably sized schools in the state.
Several hunting, fishing and saddle clubs are also located in the area. The area is served by the Pikeville Country Club which affords complete facilities for family recreation including one of the state’s nicest golf courses.
Our immediate area is a paradise for the outdoors person, with many private lakes and hunting reserves which provide outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, canoeing, etc. Also the Department of Conservation maintains 25 game management areas making deer, turkey, squirrel, etc. hunting possible.
