Winfield and Marion County has a labor force of more than 8,500 employable adults, with a broad base of skills and balanced economy in manufacturing, transportation, communications, utilities, agriculture, healthcare, technicians and managers. Our community has been successful in attracting diverse business and industry through the combined efforts of various public and private sectors, including the City of Winfield, Marion County and many community-minded businesses and the Chamber of Commerce. The resulting diversification has produced a balanced economy and stable employment in the area. A number of accredited public and private colleges and universities are located within a sixty (60) mile radius of the area, The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, The University of Alabama Birmingham and The University of North Alabama in Florence. Community colleges are strongly represented in the area, increasing the number of skilled and technical workers available to area businesses and industry.

Continental Crushing and Conveying moved to Winfield from Birmingham in 1959. The company began operations with 60 employees. Since that time, the company has grown to more than 1,250 employees worldwide and 325 in Winfield which contributes $13.5 million annually to the local economy. Continental Crushing and Conveying manufactures belt conveyor components and systems primarily for the coal and aggregate industries. In addition, the company supplies undercarriage components to the manufactured housing industry and supplies the textile industry with air filtration and fiber baling presses.

King Kutter, Inc., a manufacturer of rotary mowers and farm implements, was organized in 1964 and has been part of the Winfield industrial community since 1985. Sales and distribution of King Kutter products have substantially increased throughout the United States and Canada. The Company began operations in Winfield with approximately 40 employees operating one shift. Presently the Company employs approximately 150 people with two shifts operating. We are proud to be a part of the City of Winfield.

Northwest Medical Center is undoubtedly the hub of this community's healthcare industry. Throughout its fifty (50) year history, the Winfield hospital has been providing the finest healthcare to the Winfield community and its citizens in the region. This seventy-one (71) bed licensed and accredited acute care hospital is a state-of-the-art facility, representing nearly every medical specialty. The Medical Center has more than fifty (50) dedicated highly trained physicians on active staff. Approximately thirty-five (35) percent of its physicians are primary care practitioners, while sixty-five (65) percent are in specialized medicine. Eighty-five (85) percent of the physicians on staff are board certified in their field of medicine. The Medical Center constantly strives to make its healthcare services as personal, professional and convenient as possible, serving nearly 3,000 inpatients and 50,000 outpatients annually. Fifty (50) percent of our patients come from Marion County, with the balance from (4) surrounding counties. The Medical Center offers a modern Women’s and Childbirth Unit, a thirty (30) bed Medical/Surgical Unit, Intensive Care Unit, and twenty-four (24) hour emergency care. Centers’ of excellence include Women and Childcare, Wound Care, Wellness and rehabilitation, Cancer Center and Ambulatory Surgery. Other important services offered include Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service and twenty-four (24) hour Emergency Department and Carraway Methodist LifeSaver helicopters, from which critical care patients can be airlifted to Carraway Methodist Hospital in Birmingham. Campus facilities include a freestanding Cancer Center, Physician Office Building, Wellness and Rehabilitation Center, Specialist Medical Clinic and Assisted Living Center. Other off site programs include Physician Clinics, Home Health Agency and a Mental Health Partial Hospitalization facility. Local physicians and healthcare professionals can provide almost any medical service that you need. It is not necessary to travel long distances since most medical services are now offered locally.

Performance Fibers is a multi-national manufacturing company with production sites on three continents. The business has sales, marketing, technical and applications support, as well as manufacturing, in North America , Europe and Asia . It is a global leader in fibers and fabrics for tires, a significant supplier of fibers for automotive safety belts and a major resource for a diversity of industrial fibers products.

The Performance Fibers Winfield plant is a fabric conversion facility serving the tire industry. The 145,000 sq. ft. plant is situated on 5.5 acres and has over 100 employees. The company has announced the expansion of its tire cord fabric plants both in Winfield and Scottsboro , Ala. This expansion of the company’s converting facilities will increase its capacity to produce a wide variety of tire cord fabrics by more than 40 percent and is expected to be operational in the third quarter of 2006.

Buccaneer Homes has entered the Winfield industrial scene by renovating and now occupying the old Blackhawk facility adjacent to Winfield's Industrial Park. The Buccaneer Mobile Home facility employs over 150 people and is part of the Cavalier Corporation.
