Greetings From Mayor Silas

Mayor Wayne SilasWelcome to Winfield, a great place to live!

Now that you’re here, take a quick tour of our city.  We think you’ll find that Winfield has much to offer from our modern regional hospital, our excellent school system, ranked among the top ten in Alabama, our beautiful wooded park and recreational facilities, to our new downtown lighting and streetscape, featuring period lamp posts with colorful banners and new sidewalk and memorial brick pavers.  Take a second look in person to get the flavor of small town living which draws many to sample great barbeque, steaks and seafood, prepared by local restaurants.  Drive by the recently-remodeled Pastime Theatre, a cultural experience of days gone by, but something we’re certainly proud of today. Be sure to check out our clothing and gift shops, all located conveniently in the downtown area as well.

There’s so much more, but come find out for yourself! Winfield is easily accessible on U.S. Highway 78 (future I-22) just 75 miles northwest of Birmingham. Our city is only a short drive south from exit #30 and we really think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Hampton Inn Coming to Winfield

Artist's Rendering of Hampton Inn at Grey's Landing

Groundbreaking ceremonies were held on Monday, May 24, 2010 for the new Hampton Inn which will be located in Winfield at Exit 30 off Corridor X (future Interstate 22). Mayor Silas, members of the Winfield City Council and Chamber of Commerce along with other City and civic leaders attended the celebration as CDA Hospitality, LLC of Flowood, Mississippi began construction on the modern 63-room Hotel. In addition, the facility will contain a pool, conference room (with high-speed internet), complimentary breakfast, fitness room and a business center. The hotel will be a Hampton Inn, which is a brand within the Hilton Worldwide family (http://www.hiltonworldwide.com/ourbrands/hampton.htm).

Bob Anderson, CFO of CDA Hospitality, LLC, stated, "This is the first piece of the new “Grey’s Landing” development. We’d like to emphasize the development opportunities for the available surrounding parcels too (e.g. restaurant and other retail /commercial)."

At a luncheon/Chamber of Commerce meeting immediately following the groundbreaking, Mayor Wayne Silas expressed his appreciation for the cooperation among the various groups that allowed this project to come together. "It takes a tremendous amount of effort on the part of many people to make a project like this possible," Mayor Silas said.
