W. H. Box was born and raised on his family farm in nearby Rock City. He is a 1960 graduate of Winfield City High School and also attended the Diesel School of Mechanics in Nashville, TN for two years. He retired from Drummond Company working as a diesel mechanic and heavy equipment operator and also farming. His love for tractors began on his family farm at an early age driving and working on his grandfather's Farmall tractors which he later restored along with four other tractors.
In 2009 he approached the Winfield Chamber about including tractors in the Mule Day Parade which they gladly agreed with. After years of attending numerous tractor shows both in and out of state, we were able to have a large number of participants, which increased each year. Lots of positive comments for the addition of the tractors to this special event.
W. H. and his wife Frances (1961 WCHS grad) have been married 58 years and have one daughter Lisa Box Tesney (Greg), two grandsons Tanner Tesney (Delaney), Trey Tesney and soon to be great-grandson Walt Tesney due in February.
Due to failing health he is stepping aside. W. H. has thoroughly enjoyed his tenure of overseeing this event over the years. He would like to thank those who have helped him, especially the Winfield City Police for their assistance in getting the tractors safely in the parade lineup.

The Mule Day tradition began in 1975, honoring the hard-working mules of the day. Our Mule Day founding fathers never dreamed that these long eared mules would have become such a big hit with folks.
Vendors and spectators are from all over the Southeast, including Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida. Mule Day offers mule judging, flea market vendors, arts and crafts vendors, fireworks, live music and dance, food vendors, 5k run, parade, car show, antique tractors, cornhole tournament, disc golf tournament, and so much more.
Mule Day now attracts an estimated 25,000 to 30,000 spectators each year. Don’t pass on your chance to become a sponsor and be part of the excitement!
