MISSION STATEMENT
"To prevent loss of property & loss of life through proactive and reactive responses to fires, medical calls, rescue emergencies and man-made or natural disasters."
Chief's Statement
Over the past 15 years, the department has evolved from a traditional fire department which only responded to fires and car accidents. We are now an all hazards department that responds to, and is prepared to handle and mitigate a wide range of emergencies. Our goal of protecting our residents and visitors to our city is taken very seriously. We want our residents to be proud of our efforts and provide you with a professional fire department.
We welcome visitors to our department and if you would like a tour of the station and equipment, please call and set up a time and we would be pleased to have you. If you need fire training classes for your agency we can accommodate that also. I thank you for the opportunity to serve as your fire chief and hope that you are proud of the changes we have made in order to better serve your needs.
Fire Department Personnel and Services
The fire department consists of six career firefighters, and twenty five volunteers. The department has training twice a month to ensure that all firefighters are properly trained. All career firefighters are certified fire instructors, and can train the volunteers with on-site training. All classes are certified through the Alabama State Fire College.

Severe Weather
To protect our residents from seasonal tornadoes, the fire department has placed five weather sirens around the city to alert residents of impending severe weather. The EMA offices in Marion & Fayette County are responsible for activating the sirens when severe weather is approaching. The sirens are tested monthly on the first Tuesday of each month, unless severe weather is expected that day.
The city also has built an above ground tornado shelter next to city hall, and this building will withstand 250+ MPH winds. The building will accommodate up to 500 people in a tornado situation if you do not have shelter at your home or work. The fire department will open the shelter and provide a firefighter, police officer, and a paramedic while the shelter is open for your safety. It will also be stocked to take care of any items you may need while at the shelter.
